NSO - Feather Carriers Workshop

Posted on Nov. 2, 2020, 11:13 a.m.

Dear Nursing Students,

NSO invites you to participate in a wonderful opportunity to participate in an interactive workshop Storytelling & Listening to an Indigenous Understanding presented by Feather Carriers Leadership For Life Promotion. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in different life promotion activities and gain knowledge from an Indigenous perspective. This workshop will equip nursing students with the life promotion tools they can utilize within their nursing practice, own life and within the community. This training is an approach that speaks to the heart and minds of people working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) Individuals and communities who are at risk for unnatural premature death and supporting loss.

Feather Carriers- Leadership and Life Promotion were born out of a connection to the land waters and Indigenous communities surrounding the southern waters of Manido’wi zaagaiaagan (Spirit lake)- Georgian Bay and Wawaseyaagumin  (Shining Lake)- Lake Simcoe. These waters have sustained the lives of the Wendat and currently, bring to life the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee.  Feather Carriers is an International program that was created to support the requests of FNMI peoples who were seeking resources and supports on suicide prevention.

There are two sessions being offered with a maximum of 30 participants per session on November 16th one at 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
