OCNIG Newsletter - Winter 2019

Posted on Feb. 7, 2019, 2:30 p.m.

Dear OCNIG Members,

Attached is your Winter newsletter. Please print and post in your workplaces and schools. Also, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

Some newsletter highlights include a report on the important Coalition work, by Shirley Kennedy and myself, with a potential merger of the two Coalitions. Educational opportunities as well as articles on Segregation reform and Institutional violence are included.

There are links to register for the OCNIG AGM; all members who register and attend the meeting will be reimbursed the registration fee.

It would be a wonderful opportunity to network and to ask the Executive about the exciting work that is being done to meet our Ends. Please register today to reserve your spot!

Nursing students, please promote OCNIG at your schools and consider inviting an Executive member to speak at your student events. Shirley and I presented to a class of Ryerson Nursing students in 2018, which provided an excellent opportunity to present our unique practice setting to students. Please use the poster found in the newsletter to promote OCNIG and Corrections as a practice setting.

There is an upcoming Annual Queen’s Park Day when RNAO members will invite our Members of Parliament to breakfast to discuss the current platform and key messages about our important work, then attending the Legislative Assembly.

Please keep current with the events and take advantage of opportunities to become more involved in your Chapters and with OCNIG Executive.

And lastly, don’t forget to order your OCNIG Fleece jacket. Members in attendance at the OCNIG AGM will have a chance to win a jacket of their own, as a door prize.

If you don’t win, join those of us who already have a jacket and wear it proudly!

In this time of scant resources and stressful work places, please consider joining OCNIG in order to contribute to and be updated about important changes to health care in Corrections.

Here is a chance to be part of a movement and to make a difference!

Stay warm; winter will soon be behind us as we look forward to what spring brings!

Warm regards

Angela Di Marco

OCNIG President
